Early Interceptive Treatment

PHASE 1 CARE

While orthodontics is appropriate at any age, Dr. Diers prefers a screening as a child, sometimes as early as 3 years old.  Dr. Diers has a sincere interest in the total overall health of your child.  An examination focuses not only on the teeth, but also the profile and facial structure, the jaw joints and your child’s sleep patterns.  Early screening allows Dr. Diers to supervise growth of the jaws and tooth eruption patterns.

*Modern orthodontics is about so much more than straight teeth, and for that reason, Dr. Diers also practices orthopedics, which refers to jaw development.  Timing of proactive treatment is critical to the success of the overall outcome.  If a problem is detected early on, Dr. Diers can intercept and restore normal position and function.*

The jaw development phase, or Phase 1, balances the face and smile and promotes the very best profile.  Early interceptive treatment maximizes your child’s dental & facial development and ensures orthodontic treatment without the extraction of permanent teeth. Early interceptive treatment also shortens the time braces are needed in the future, and reduces the complexity.  With the proper facial balance and jaw position, your child will also sleep better, and therefore feel and perform their very best.
